Republicans win temporary "victory" in their attempts to deport her mom
Having successfully shopped for a federal judge in Texas who is an "outspoken critic" of President Obama's immigration policies, Republicans are
crowing this morning:
A federal judge in Texas has ordered a halt, at least temporarily, to President Obama’s executive actions on immigration, siding with Texas and 25 other states that filed a lawsuit opposing the initiatives.
Those would be the initiatives—overwhelmingly supported by the Latino community that Republicans seem hellbent on alienating—that:
... focus enforcement agents on deporting serious criminals and those posing threats to national security. Three-year deportation deferrals and work permits were offered for undocumented immigrants who have not committed serious crimes, have been here at least five years and have children who are American citizens or legal residents.
Following the ruling, the White House issued a
statement denouncing the decision and said the Department of Justice would appeal.
Which means, according to some, that:
... any order by Judge Hanen to halt the president’s actions would be quickly suspended by the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans.
Stay tuned.
