To all our Republican and Mangy Dog friends, I ask a simple question: why did your beloved Bush impose socialist Nazi policies on Iraq? I thought he invaded to give them peace, freedom, and the wonders of American capitalism. But Mark Dorlester has this, at the Huffington Post:
Article 31 of the Iraqi Constitution, drafted by your right-wing Bushies in 2005 and ratified by the Iraqi people, includes state-guaranteed (single payer) healthcare for life for every Iraqi citizen.
Article 31 reads:
"First: Every citizen has the right to health care. The State shall maintain public health and provide the means of prevention and treatment by building different types of hospitals and health institutions.
Second: Individuals and entities have the right to build hospitals, clinics,or private health care centers under the supervision of the State, and this shall be regulated by law."
There are other health care guarantees, including special provisions for children, the elderly, and the handicapped elsewhere in the 43-page document.
As Dorlester points out, we have lost more American lives in Iraq than we lost in the September 11 terrorist attacks. We have spent nearly a trillion dollars. And it was all to impose and enforce a version of democracy that includes national health care as a constitutional right. So, why are we willing to make such effort, and such incredible sacrifices, to give the Iraqis what we aren't willing to give ourselves? Do the Republicans and the Mangy Dogs secretly hate Iraq, and want to destroy it by forcing the Iraqi people to suffer the horrors of available health care? Or is it that they believe the Iraqis deserve basic rights that we simply don't?
